Photoshop is now officially accessible on the iPhone.

“Photoshop” has long been synonymous with image editing, and rightfully so. It has been the industry standard for over 30 years. While Photoshop has been available on computers and tablets for a while, those who wanted to edit photos on their smartphones had to rely on alternative apps—or just stick to using their other devices.
That changes today. As of Tuesday, February 25, Photoshop is officially available on the iPhone. You can now visit the App Store, search for “Photoshop,” and find not just the usual alternatives like Lightroom, Canva, and Facetune, but the actual Photoshop app as well. The best part? The app is free, offering a variety of “core imaging and design tools.” According to Adobe, these include:
- Selections, layers, and masks
- Tap Select tool
- Spot Healing Brush
- Adobe Firefly AI features, like Generative Fill and Generative Expand
- Integration with Adobe Express, Adobe Fresco, and Adobe Lightroom
- Access to “hundreds of thousands” of free Adobe Stock assets

The company showcased several editing examples to demonstrate how the app can be used: utilizing a masking tool to cut a subject from one image and paste it into another; using a “quick select brush” to isolate parts of an image for editing; layering multiple images to create a striking yet realistic composition around a subject; adjusting the color of a specific element in an image while leaving the rest unchanged; and quickly selecting and removing objects from a scene.
Adobe is also promoting its AI capabilities, especially Generative Fill. In one example, a representative inserts an island into an ocean scene by using the lasso tool to select the desired area and then applying Generative Fill to generate a grassy island. In another demo, Generative Fill is used to remove a background and replace it with the sky from another part of the image.
For those with prior Photoshop experience, the tools and features in this app version will likely feel familiar. However, since this is a mobile app, the user interface is tailored for smaller screens, and it may take a bit of time to find where all the usual tools and features are located. Still, from what is visible in the demos, this version of Photoshop offers a similar experience to the desktop version—just adapted for mobile use.
There are additional features available if you’re willing to pay. While the core features of Photoshop are free to download and use on the iPhone, you can unlock more tools and benefits with a paid subscription. Adobe now offers a “Photoshop Mobile and Web plan” for those who want access to more features on iOS, iPadOS, and the web. This plan includes:
- Access to Photoshop on the web
- Expanded AI tools powered by Firefly, such as Generate Similar and Reference Image
- Over 20,000 fonts (or the ability to import your own)
- Object Select for more precise selections
- Magic Wand tool for targeted adjustments
- Remove Tool
- Clone Stamp tool
- Content-Aware Fill
- Advanced blend modes for styling images
- “Lighten” and “Darken” options to adjust specific parts of an image
This plan costs $7.99 per month or $69.99 per year. If you’re already a paying Photoshop subscriber, these additional perks are included in your plan.
